This unique device can be used to determine angular elevations and azimuths of various celestial bodies by simply sighting them along its top edge. Even use it to calculate the altitude attained by your model rockets! Or verify your latitude by measuring the elevation of the north star! The angular elevation of an object can be read directly from the astrolabe's face. A locking lever is used to hold a reading until you have had time to record it. It also functions as an accelerometer with one half of its face calibrated in units of G.
