Molecular models made easy with this kit. This is a specially designed two-part kit. Students first develop an understanding of electron characteristics with the electron structure of the atom (Bohr model). They then progress to an understanding of atoms gaining, losing, or sharing electrons in order to form molecules of a substance. This kit is designed with the aid of a four-page student worksheet to introduce students to molecular models by first using 2-dimensional color-coded atoms. Lewis diagramming can be taught with these models and directions are included in the Instruction Manual. After the activity dealing with the electron structure of the atom, the atoms are connected molecules of similar or different atoms. Writing empirical and structural formulas is part of the student activities. Students progress to 3-dimensional, color-coded plastic atoms building more realistic molecular models. The 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional atoms are colorful, easy-to-assemble and help students visualize the structure of the molecular formula that it represents. An excellent kit for all grade levels as it can be used for review as well as an introduction to atom-molecule concepts. Highly recommended for grades 6 and up. Kit contains enough material for 12 lab groups of 2 students each for 2 classes. |
