Also known as Plucker tubes, these high pressure tubes are especially prepared for wave length determination with a grating spectrometer; spectrum analysis by the comparison method: for acquainting students with the spectra of the better known gases in their pure form; and for acquainting students with the characteristic colour exhibited by gases when a discharge is passed through them. The single isotope Krypton spectrum tube produces the same spectra line used by the Bureau of Standards for the standard of length. The capillary tubes are approximately 10cm long. An electrode is sealed in each end terminating in a cap and ring on the outside for convenience in connecting them in a circuit. A discharge passed through the tube is concentrated in the centre glass section and is therefore especially brilliant. Hence, the tubes are ideal for use in front of the slit of spectrometers and spectroscopes. The tubes have unusually low resistance and will operate on induction coils, low milliampere rating transformer of 2500 volts and up.
