A wire carrying an electric current creates a magnetic field. The apparatus is designed to experimentally investigate the dependence of the magnitude and direction of the magnetic field on the current that produces it. The vector addition of magnetic fields is also illustrated. The unit con sists of 305 cm of stranded copper wire, a large, easy to read compass, a compass table, and a sturdy non-ma gnetic stand.
